June 15-26, 2002 Helena, Montana Habitat for Humanity Global Village Build
We had a great time in beautiful Helena, Montana. What an involved affiliate we had there in Helena who took such good care of us. Our quarters were at the Carroll College dorms and breakfast and dinners were served to us by the local cooks. Lunches were brought to our site by local volunteers. One day we even had a visit from the mayor of Helena. Our construction supervisor Herb was great. He was so patient with all us “green horns”. However, we pitched right in and worked very hard on an existing home bringing it from the framing stage to siding, roofing, insulation, front porch and painting.
The weather was fantastic and we had time in the evenings to tour downtown Helena or view the beautiful sunsets from the college overlook. We had time during the weeks build to take some afternoon tours, one of the Gran-Kors Ranch and other local sightseeing. For the scheduled R&R we had a weekend at Yellowstone and enjoyed a tour of that beautiful park. Our team was young, enthusiastic and worked hard together to build and enjoy another wonderful Habitat adventure.
